Brazil: 40 percent of priests have sex
Sao Paulo, , Apr. 22 (UPI) -- More than four out of 10 Brazilian priests have sexual relations with women, a survey released Thursday indicated.
The study conducted by the Center for Religious Statistics and Social Investigations said 41 percent of 758 priests answering a poll mailed to them said they were sexually active.
Bishop Anuar Battisti from Brazil's National Conference of Bishops called the results worrisome, but said the priests were only human and therefore flawed.
He added that despite their transgressions he didn't consider the priests to be devoid of "character or morals."
Battisti noted the survey found that 94 percent of Brazilian priests were pleased with their calling and did not regret making a life-long commitment to the Catholic Church.
